The Challenge

Academic research exploring the benefits of anthroposophic therapies remains scarce in the country. Few therapists venture to endorse their work and research to competent academic institutions. The recognition of Anthroposophy in the healthcare field also hinges on acknowledging traditional medicine, prevalent in universities and research centers.

The Project

The Color and Movement Project – scientific research, commenced in April 2018, is one of the strategies within the larger project named COLOR AND MOVEMENT IN BRAZIL, aiming to disseminate the principles of artistic medical therapy proposed by Liane Collot d’Herbois in Brazil. It forms a part of a therapist’s master’s dissertation and is affiliated with the Federal University of São Paulo, specifically within the Department of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Neurology and Neurosciences, under the discipline of Clinical Neurology at the Paulista School of Medicine.

For this study, 24 patients with various health issues participated in 16 sessions of artistic therapy. Alongside the research fieldwork, data were systematically collected, statistical analyses were conducted, and the document was written.

The Impact

  • Reliability in this complementary integrative practice, making it an adoptable therapeutic resource within the public healthcare system.
  • An alternative, non-pharmacological, and cost-effective healthcare resource, thus accessible to the general population.
  • Scientific recognition of artistic therapy as a complement to medical treatment.
  • Dissemination of anthroposophic principles to healthcare professionals, such as physicians and therapists in general.
  • Improvement in essential tremor indices and researched symptoms (anxiety, depression, and quality of life).
  • An opportunity for Anthroposophy to be recognized as a practical and efficient approach through evidence-based studies, in the scientific, academic, and societal realms.
  • Pioneering/Innovation: the world’s first project linking artistic medical therapy to the principles of Light, Color, and Darkness within an academic setting.
  • Harmonization between different theoretical and therapeutic approaches: conventional medicine, anthroposophic medicine, and artistic medical therapy; all working towards outcomes that benefit the patient and consequently, human health.
  • Completion of the research and obtaining the Master’s degree.
