The Challenge

There are few centers in the country specialized in the application of integrative practices for health promotion for children and youth with chronic and complex diseases. The integrative and complementary practices involve approaches that can prevent worsening, promote or recover health, and emphasize the welcoming listening, the development of the therapeutic bond, and the integration of the human being with the environment and society.

The Project

The project aims to expand the integrative Pediatrics Unit at the Instituto da Criança of the Hospital das Clínicas to promote the integral health of pediatric patients. The integrative practices used by the health team are: Anthroposophical External Therapies, Mindfulness, Music Therapy and Acupuncture.

The Impact

It is hoped that the Unit can offer better health care, especially with regard to mental health, the family-patient binomial, reducing the use of medication, and promoting self-care. With the application of these complementary therapies in a public health service with high demand, it will be possible to produce relevant scientific knowledge on the topic of integrative pediatrics and disseminate this knowledge to health professionals and the general public.
