Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress have been further aggravated by the pandemic situation. Among young people, the number of cases of depression, self-injury, and suicide is increasing, an aspect aggravated by the excess of screens, too much time in isolation, and lack of social relationships. Urban centers have a great deficit of green areas distributed equally and fairly. Nature, its landscapes and elements, inspires and promotes a more integrated and cyclical understanding of life and time; it is an excellent reference and object of contemplation for meditative/reflective and artistic practices, promoting maturation and acceptance of socioemotional challenges, trauma issues, and vulnerabilities.
The Project
The project is a partnership of Technical Cooperation between the Living and Learning in Nature Program of the Living Trees Institute and the Adolescent Health Program of the State of São Paulo for the promotion, strengthening, and improvement of actions related to the importance of nature and the environment for the integral health of those attended to in the Adolescent Houses.
The Impact
The promotion of integrative health and nature actions among the staff, the patients, and the environment of the Casa do Adolescente (House for adolescents) aims to have an impact by improving the quality of life and well-being of the adolescents, their relationship networks, and support networks (family members, caregivers, and guardians); the multi-professional staff to be able to better perform their activities in a more focused and efficient way, reducing stress and tensions; and to promote a more biodiverse environment in relation to flora and fauna, including plants for food and medicinal purposes (teas, herbal remedies, among others).
