Regenerative Agriculture and Expansion of Food Production in the Periphery of São Paulo
AGRICULTURE
SÃO PAULO – SP
2023/2024
Large cities, with their disordered growth and irregular land occupation, have been feeling the impacts of extreme weather events quite intensely. These increasingly frequent events have required quick and effective solutions from both the public sector and civil society.
As an alternative to this climate issue, IAG has been working to recover and regenerate planting areas through the ART method – Tropical Regenerative Agriculture – to create resilient crops. In addition, the project has focused on producing vitalized food with low external input usage. Currently, the project is working to expand the productive area from 500 m² to 9,500 m², thereby increasing the production of inputs that supply the institution. The goal is for the garden to fully meet the needs of the institution, which provides hundreds of free meals daily, thereby reducing the need to purchase external products.
