The Challenge

The school communities Nossa Sra. do Carmo and Rede Calábria are located in the Restinga neighborhood, whose population has grown exponentially and it is advancing over the rural area of the municipality of Porto Alegre. With this, there has also been an increase in irregular occupation near streams and springs that end up being contaminated by effluents and waste produced by residents who often have no knowledge about the environmental impacts they have generated.

The Project

The project Agriculture and Pedagogy Guided by Anthroposophy in Strengthening Community Protagonism in Schools proposes to develop skills in environmental education with the school community and residents of the Restinga neighborhood in Porto Alegre / RS, promoting interactions with themes related to food production in biodynamic community farm spaces. To this end, workshops will be offered on painting and drawing with natural pigments in alleys of the periphery and discussions and actions related to solid waste management (separation, composting and recycling of materials).

The Impact

Empowerment, belonging and protagonism are important competencies for dignity and social justice where the project is intended to develop. It is hoped that the teachers, students, and residents of the schools involved in the project will become multiplying agents, permeated with the willingness for social change, bringing together sustainable solutions for their neighborhoods. School and urban communities working together to strengthen the protagonism of the people involved in the project, appropriating public spaces for the dissemination of socio-environmental and sustainable actions
