The Project

The Zizo Parque Association idealized the implementation of a meliponary in the heart of the largest continuum of virgin Atlantic Forest in Brazil, creating the first educational meliponary in the region. The project arose from the need to increase the educational life of Zizo Park and to also provide better living conditions for native bees, which play an important role in maintaining the life of the forest. In addition to the production of a variety of honey and propolis, the meliponary has a strong character of awareness, since it is a space for the education and contemplation of these pollinating insects.

Objectives

– Install an educational meliponary in Parque do Zizo.

– Contribute to the preservation of the life of several species of native bees.

– Generate knowledge and awareness about the dynamics, behavior and reality of native bee species.

– Enable the community, researchers and visitors to have contact with the universe of native bees.

RESULTS

– Adequacy of existing space for the rational meliponary.

– Production of the best quality honeys, without degenerating influences such as pollutants, radiation and toxic chemical substances.

– Acquisition of eight new melipona hives.
